Do you ever take the time to reflect on who you are as a person? Who you strive to be? The impact you have on the people around you?
I’ve been reflecting a lot on the kindness and compassion I see in the people around me, and let me tell you there’s not a lot of it. With everything going on in the world, I believe people have lost their way. We as a society have become so opinionated, and involved in each others lives that we lose sight of what’s important.
Kindness and compassion. Instead of focusing on kindness, we have resulted to judgement and hatred, without even knowing the whole story.
“The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion” -Paulo Coelho
I encourage you to stop reading, and think/reflect on this quote.
What steps have you taken to become the best version of yourself? What have you done for society to make your community better? It’s not through judgement and hatred, but kindness and compassion. Whatever those actions or examples were, I bet they were done because you cared a great deal about the matter at hand. When someone you care about is hurt, you jump to their side because you want them to be okay. You do anything you can to help because you know they’re going through a difficult time in their life.
I am currently reading this book called Resisting Happiness by Matthew Kelly, and one of his quotes has resonated with me for quite some time now: “The lesson I learned was that someone can look perfectly fine, but you never know what is going on inside- and everyone has something going on inside”
We as a society are hurting. We need to show kindness and compassion to one another. If you made it through this blog post, I challenge you to show kindness to someone today, whether it’s a stranger, a family member, a friend, a coworker, literally anyone. Most of the time we don’t know the full story, we don’t know people are hurting or struggling, so a simple act of kindness could go a long way.
