Growing up in a small town you dream of fairy tales and happily ever after. When you’re a little girl you look at everything with rainbows and butterflies until suddenly it starts to rain and the butterflies fly away.
I am only 22 years old and I can’t remember the last time i saw rainbows and butterflies. It’s like when you reach 7th grade, all the things that made you happy begin to fade. You start to worry about how popular you are, or if the clothes you picked out that day are going to be cool enough. Now I worry about the next job I am going to secure, credit card bills, what I want for the future. It shouldn’t be the norm to not be happy as you get older.
Write a list of things that make you happy. Here’s mine:
1. Drinking coffee
2. Taking care of my plants
3. Making food/ baking
4. Helping someone whether its a friend, a family member, or someone random
5. Listening to music
6. Surrounding myself with people I love
7. My pinterest boards
If this was hard for you to write, ask yourself how happy you are and why that is. You’ll notice that my list is filled with simple things. It’s often the simplest things that make people happy. Give me a cup of coffee and I am the happiest girl on earth. At the end of the day, when you get all cozy in bed, your mind will naturally gravitate towards the happy moments, that instant in time you felt the best. It takes more energy to be negative, and unhappy. Take steps towards being the best version of yourself. Do something that makes you happy each day.
